What is Yoga?

Yoga in a modern transient world can be described as a practice that helps to bring balance to the body, the mind, & build a sense of harmony internally and externally.  By slowing down our day, slowing down and observing the breath, and getting back in touch with what is real and present, we can open up a new space for change, compassion, gratitude and health.
One only needs to look inward to find life's most challenging questions and to face life's hardest challenges.

Once we cultivate peace internally, it manifests itself in the world around us.

Lineage

While it is important to have a form to work in, the true essence is found in the formless, the feeling, the experience.  My approach is integral, combining what I have found to be powerful aspects of many beautiful and unique traditions.  Yogicly speaking, I draw from the Ashtanga and Sivananda traditions of yoga, with emphasis on breath and pranic (energy) awareness.  My studies and understandings of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, anatomy and physiology, Shamanic, Judaic, Qi-gong studies and my personal life experiences are all an integral part of what I like to share.

Mystical Yoga
Devotional Practice

Picture
The yoga of spiritual practice, used to reveal the truth of our being and inner-self, is refereed to as Mystical.  Mystical Yoga uses the spiritual practice of yoga combined with healing concepts and healing practices of shamanic medicine as found in the high mountains of Peru.  Our shamanic yoga practice is usually done in a four class sequence, but the essence of Mystical yoga is to be used in our everyday lives.

Hatha Flow
Harmonizing the Body & Mind

Picture
An energy-replenishing style of yoga, used to build strength and good posture through the holding of poses for extended periods of time.  This allows time for internal reflection and meditation.  In addition to our regular Hatha yoga, we offer a Hatha Chakra flow that works through our Chakras from top to bottom.

Pranic Flow
Vital Energy Flow & Breath Awareness

Picture
Breath based Vinyasa flow class with emphasis on Pranayama practice as a way to deepen your concentration.  We use the breath as our Dhyana (focal point.)  By watching the breathe we leave less space for the mind to wonder and increase awareness in the body.

Vinyasa Flow
Vitality and Strength

Picture
Using our breath to guide and sync our poses, Vinyasa yoga is a faster paced yoga. This style of yoga is the choice for those who want a workout and wish to build their strength and balance while focusing on the breath.

Chakra Flow Restorative
Cultivation and Release

A unique Hatha class that incorporates various restorative poses.  Restorative yoga uses props to allow the practitioner to release tension and find a deep meditative state.  The Chakra Flow sequence is a way to help align and activate the Chakras (energy centers) leaving the body energetic and refreshed.

Meditation
Harmonizing Mind, Body, Spirit

Picture
Finding harmony internally and externally with your surroundings, meditation is a way to break from the habitual conditioning of the world around us.

  Stop. Breathe. Smile.

Yoga For Surfers
Strong, Calm, Aware

Picture
I found an immediate connection between yoga and surfing.  Connecting the body/breathe & mind, increased awareness, deep focus, and a heightened state of consciousness.

*Pictured here is Gerry Lopez whose incrediblycalm style and talent make him a surfing legend.  He is also a Yogi.

Partner Yoga
A Deeper Connection

Picture
Yoga for two, Partner yoga is a companion based yoga where  two people use each other to deepen their practice and often their relationship.  Great for couples, friends, or strangers, partner yoga allows you to build trust and a better understanding of how the body works by relying on the synced movements of another individual.
