Journey on the Yogic path
Beginning The Journey
Yoga has been a part of my life for more that 15 years. When I was 16 years old I embarked on a trip through Ecuador with my brother to surf and enjoy the time away from home before beginning my senior year of high school. One day, on the beach before surfing, my brother asked me if I knew about Yoga. He had been traveling with a group of people who had just returned from one of the Sivananda Yoga Centers and he showed me a Sivananda style sun salutation. Realizing it could help me loosen up before surfing I used this simple practice almost daily for several years practicing on the beach before paddling out into the ocean. Two years later after moving to Santa Barbara, California I took my first yoga class. Yoga was still a physical practice at that time but my meditation and spiritual practice had been developing on it's own without the yogic influence. When I finally moved to San Francisco I took on a more committed daily practice. I was deep into a Sivasana in a studio class when I had my first real yogic realization. That the Asana practice and devotion to breath had taken me to another state of consciousness. It was then that I decided to take my first Yoga Teacher Training which was the true moment of deepening my yoga practice.
Deepening the practice
My own Yoga Teacher Training immersion led me to study with many of the great teachers sharing yoga in the West. I have been honored to take study with or take classes from Rodney Yee, Vedantin 'Ping' Luo, Janet Stone, Mark Whitwell, Maty Ezraty, John Friend and many other influencers of yoga. I have also learned incredible teachings from my peers in the yoga community who have unselfishly shared what they have learned from their experience and their teachers. I had the unique opportunity to live and study for a full year in the Yoga Society of San Francisco (YSSF) founded by Sri Brahmananda Saraswati and the spark of energy being held by his devotees.
During the last 8 years of my practice I have been honored to led over 30 Yoga Teacher Training immersions, 1000s of hours of classes, many retreats and workshops. Deepening further my understanding and ability to transmit the multifaceted practices of Yoga: Philosophy (Vedanta and Tantra), Meditation, Yogic Lifestyle, Pranayama, Chakras and Kriyas. As well as a deep understanding of the different modern day branches of yoga: Ashtanga (Sri Pattabhi Jois), Iyengar Hatha (BKS Iyengar), Sivananda Hatha (Sivananda), Viniyoga (Desikachar) and the development of the newer styles of their students.
